The Details are in the Data with Kate Lester

From the moment Kate Lester of KL Interiors and Kate Lester Home committed to a career in design, she also committed to creating a profitable and effective business model. She’s had many realizations along the way and keeps it super real with her clients and on Instagram. By sticking to her business model, her employees all operate in the same fashion, and the clients know exactly what to expect.

Below are some of Kate’s top tips for succeeding as a luxury designer.

Some of Kate’s Top Tips

Dress for Success

With being a designer comes being a business owner. For your design business to succeed, you must have your processes and systems in order. If you are disheveled in your appearance or your business, potential clients may second guess working with you.

Use a Software for Designers

Although software like QuickBooks has its place and can be useful for designers, there is designer-specific software available. Software created for designers will check all of the boxes for your business. It will also make it easier for you to keep your invoices, contracts, etc., in one digital location.

Stand By Your Business Model

When your employees and clients recognize that you stick to your business procedures, they will respect them as well. Create a plan that you follow for all clients, and don’t back down if a client pushes back on one of your systems. You may not be a good fit for each other, and someone else who will respect your business model will take their place.

Know Your Prices

As a business owner, you must know what you need to charge to make a profit. This includes knowing how much your time is worth, how much your overhead costs, and any materials you need. When you know your pricing, stand by them. Your ideal client will gladly pay for your services if they believe in you and your business model.
